Kupang, Melanesiahotnews.com – Governor of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat, issued a Governor Regulation, Number 56 Year 2018 Regarding Day of English Language.
The regulation was issued by the governor, in order to support tourism as a leading sector in the island-based province.
“According to the direction of the Governor, today we announce that starting tomorrow Wednesday all NTT people will use English and this has a legal basis,” NTT Tourism Office Chief Marius Ardu Jelamu said in a press conference with a number of journalists in Kupang on Tuesday (29 / 1/2019).
According to Marius, English will be used by all NTT people, one day a week, which is every Wednesday.
The purpose of this regulation was continued by Marius, to make English as one of the communication media in office and daily life activities throughout the NTT region.
In addition, to improve English language competence for State Civil Apparatus, private employees and all components of the NTT community and also to prepare NTT human resources who are competent in using English in communicating.
“This is also in order to familiarize English with our society and also encourage our children to learn English. This English has many values and uses. This is an international language that we must master, “said Marius.
Marius said English did not apply, except for a number of official events such as the Apple flag and official government speeches.
“At present NTT tourism is growing well, so tourism is a key sector of economic development going forward,” said Marius.
Marius hopes that the mayor and regents throughout NTT, high-level leaders, secondary schools, religious institutions, hotels, restaurants, will speak English once a week.
“Including journalists too, if the press conference on Wednesday means that you have to use English,” said Marius.
Marius hopes that in the future NTT Province can become a province that is very familiar with English.
“I think this is the first time in Indonesia that a province applies rules once a week using English,” said Marius.
“I hope that the airport and port managers in NTT, anyone when you get off the plane must use English. Wrong is fine because this is not our language. The important thing is the courage to speak, “he said.
Governor Regulation, Number 56 Year 2018 concerning English Language Day is stipulated and signed by the Governor of NTT on December 21, 2018 and will only be held on January 29, 2019. (CBN)
